Background

This project was the result of an online UI hands-on training camp. Since everyone on our team loves dogs, we chose to create a pet-related product as our final project.

Through secondary research, we found that many owners share the same concern: whether their dogs are getting enough exercise.

Ideation

From the market research, I found that there are already dog health tracking devices that monitor activity, sleep, and other data, which confirms that tracking pet health is feasible.

However, most apps for these devices focus only on numbers and health stats.
Our team wanted more; we aimed to create a product that also highlights the bond between owners and their pets.

After discussions, our team decided to build an app that not only tracks both the owner’s and the pet’s activity data during walks, but also captures the memories of those daily walks.

Highlights

The most challenging part of this project was designing the data review page. I needed to display both the owner’s and the pet’s data within the limited screen space

I applied both user research and usability testing to ensure the design aligned with user needs.

Competitor Analysis
First, I analyzed several health and wellness apps to understand how they present statistics. I noticed that it’s important to let users easily adjust the time settings, since they often want to track long-term changes. I also referred to the layouts of these apps when creating my initial wireframes.

After finishing the wireframe, I tested it with users to gather quick feedback and rapidly improve the design.

Questionnaire Survey
While wireframing, I realized I needed to refine what information to show. I conducted a survey to learn which details pet owners value most and how they prioritize them. I iterated on the design by incorporating survey results and pet owner feedback to refine the UI.
